Miami Beach: At 11:11 a.m., the city of Miami Beach will host its 17th annual Veterans Day parade and celebration. The largest parade of the day in South Florida takes route on Ocean Drive from Fifth to 15th streets, and will feature veteran and military groups, marching bands, musical and dance performances, local businesses and community organizations.

“This day is dedicated entirely to our servicemen and women, the guardians of the very freedoms we cherish. Their service built the bedrock principles that make the United States of America the greatest beacon of liberty in the world,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “My commitment to Law and Order on our streets is directly inspired by the discipline and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. They stood the line for our nation’s security and freedoms, and we honor that pledge by ensuring Miami Beach remains a safe, orderly, and proud American city.”

According to a news release from the city, “the start time of the parade coincides with the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, which was originally intended to commemorate the armistice ending World War I. Veterans Day was later expanded to honor American veterans of all wars.”

At noon, the All Veteran Parachute Team will take to the skies over South Beach for a demonstration. The public is advised to gather at Lummus Park to watch and a wreath-laying ceremony will also be held at the park.

CJ’s Crab Shack and Starbucks will provide breakfast for the veterans.
