‘I don’t run away from hard questions’: Senate candidate Angie Nixon says she’s ready for November

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — For the next 76 days, both Democratic State Rep. Angie Nixon and Republican Sen. Ashley Moody will continue to push the promises they made during their U.S. Senate campaigns.

For Nixon, that includes having uncomfortable conversations with voters within her own party in an attempt to sway voters on both sides of the aisle for her in November.

“We already have,” she said. “Republicans and independents that actually change their party affiliations to vote for me in the primary, they donated on the campaign and they also volunteered.”

During her campaign, Nixon affiliated herself with the democratic socialist group.

She explained that her plan is to convince the moderate Democrats who likely voted for her own party opponent Alex Vindman to now choose her.

“The issues are the same and so I’m going to talk to them, I’m going to have those conversations with them,” said Nixon. “I don’t run away from hard questions. I believe that is what helps us progress here in this country, when we have those uncomfortable conversations.”

Added Vindman: “We came up short, but we have an Angie Nixon, and we can congratulate her on the win and take this battle forward to November.”

Moody wants to keep the U.S. Senate seat she has been occupying for a little over a year, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed her to the position to replace now-U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“We are standing for common sense, a commitment to safe communities, a commitment to accountable and responsive government,” Moody said after winning the Republican nomination on Tuesday. “A commitment to ensuring the people’s government puts the people’s interest first.”

Moody and Nixon will face off in the general election on Nov. 3.
