MADRID — In the NFL’s first-ever regular season game played at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, fans were treated with an overtime thriller that resulted in a 16-13 Miami Dolphins win over the Washington Commanders.

The Dolphins have won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

In what was a seesaw fourth quarter, which included the Dolphins getting stuffed on fourth-and-goal from the Commanders’ 1-yard line in a 13-13 game, the Commanders had a chance to secure a win in regulation.

Led by quarterback Marcus Mariota, filling in for the injured Jayden Daniels, the Commanders drove to the Dolphins’ 38-yard line, but kicker Matt Gay missed his second attempt of the game wide right.

In the extra frame, the Dolphins, who began on defense, got a key interception from cornerback Jack Jones, stepping in front of a Mariota pass.

That would ultimately set up the game-winning field goal from kicker Riley Patterson – drilling a 29-yard field goal through the uprights.
