MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation into a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in northwest Miami-Dade County over the weekend continues.
It happened just after 5 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and 104th Terrace.
Deputies responded after they said the victim, identified as 69-year-old Eliud Perez Velasquez, was struck by an SUV while crossing the street.
They found him lying in the roadway with severe injuries, and after deputies said he was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, he did not survive.
Investigators have since used debris that was left behind at the scene to determine that it was a black Jeep SUV that struck Velazquez, the driver never stopping and leaving Velasquez for dead.
Authorities are hoping someone who recognizes the vehicle comes forward with information that could help lead to an arrest.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
