MIAMI — More families across South Florida are getting help to ensure they have food for Thanksgiving.

Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo of District 3 continued his annual tradition Thursday, handing out turkeys and pork shoulders during a holiday food giveaway outside loanDepot Park in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

Cars wrapped around the stadium as drivers waited in line for the distribution. Organizers also set up a walk-up line for residents arriving on foot or by public transportation.

Attendees said the assistance comes at an important time.

“I’m getting it for my neighbor,” attendee Michael Teigen said. “She’s alone, her husband is in the hospital, and she’s older — in her 80s."

Organizers said the event would run until at least 2 p.m.
