MIAMI — A woman was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times during a fight inside a busy Miami restaurant, authorities said.
The stabbing happened at Pinolandia, a restaurant on Northwest 119th Street, where surveillance video captured the moment 22-year-old Damaris Rodriguez attacked another with what appeared to be scissors.
Bernardo Ruiz, the restaurant’s manager, said the two women had been fighting outside before they burst through the front door. Ruiz said in Spanish that the victim was stabbed at least four times.
Ruiz also said the business has repeatedly contacted the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office about crime in the area, citing concerns over homeless individuals breaking car windows, stealing from customers and frightening patrons.
According to the sheriff’s office, Rodriguez had asked the victim for money. When the victim refused, the argument escalated into violence. Ruiz said both women are often seen around the restaurant.
The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Deputies said Rodriguez was taken into custody.
Rodriguez appeared in bond court, as she’s facing an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge.
She is due back in court on Dec. 1.
The investigation is ongoing.
