MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami freshman Malachi Toney was named ACC Wide Receiver of the Week on Monday after totaling 149 all-purpose yards and scoring twice in the Hurricanes’ 38-7 victory at No. 22 Pittsburgh this past Saturday.

Toney caught 13 passes for 126 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown from quarterback Carson Beck late in the second quarter. He also added 23 rushing yards and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to tight end Elija Lofton, marking his second touchdown pass of the season.

The true freshman previously earned ACC Rookie of the Week following Miami’s 41-7 win over NC State on Nov. 15, when he recorded five receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns.

Toney finished his historic season with 84 catches for 970 yards and seven touchdowns, added 17 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown, and completed four of six passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The 18-year-old broke Miami’s freshman records previously held by Ahmmon Richards since 2016, a season in which Richards hauled in 49 passes and recorded 934 receiving yards.

Miami players left Acrisure Stadium on Saturday feeling alive in the ACC race after extending their winning streak to four games and completing one of the most dominant closing stretches in program history. They had just demolished No. 22 Pittsburgh 38-7.

But hours later, their ACC Championship Game hopes vanished. Wins by Duke and Virginia in their evening matchups created a five-way tie for second place, eliminating the 12th-ranked Hurricanes from contention.

Miami will now wait to see if their 10-win season is enough to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
