It happened at around 11:50 p.m. near Southwest Third Street and 18th Avenue.

Police said responding officers found the woman wounded and medics took her to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators were still at the scene late into the morning, placing evidence markers on the ground and searching for fingerprints.

In an update Sunday afternoon, a Miami Police Department spokesperson said that detectives determined that “it does not appear that the victim in this case was the intended target.”

Miami police said they were waiting to publicly identify the woman upon notifying her loved ones.

Multiple people identified the victim as a woman named Desiree who was homeless and frequented a corner store in the area.

A memorial had been set up for her Sunday.

No one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon, police said.
