DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — At least one person has died following a crash in North Broward on Wednesday, authorities said.
Broward County Regional Communications received a call around 11:45 a.m. reporting a crash near the 4700 block of Northwest 48th Street.
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded and found that the crash involved a moving vehicle and a truck that was parked on the road while pulling a trailer.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle struck the driver of the truck while he was outside the vehicle. The truck driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
They said the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim remained at the scene. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
Sky 10 footage taken shortly before 12:30 p.m. showed several BSO units at the scene.
A black Mercedes-Benz with heavy front-end damage was spotted in the roadway, along with what appeared to be a body covered by a tarp near the work truck.
Shoes and clothes could also be seen in the middle of the road.
Coconut Creek police confirmed that they were asked by BSO to close all eastbound traffic on Wiles Road at the bridge that goes over Florida’s Turnpike into Deerfield Beach.
All lanes have since reopened.
