Christopher Santanelli, 42, has been reassigned from his role at South Plantation High School ― away from students ― pending the outcome of the investigation, a Broward County Public Schools spokesperson said.

According to jail records, Plantation police arrested Santanelli on a charge of soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student as an authority figure.

Plantation police briefly outlined the allegations against Santanelli in a social media post. They described the victim as an “adult student.”

“Contact was made with the victim, who advised that they had received gifts from the teacher and exchanged text messages with the teacher,” the post read. “The victim also advised that they were hugged and kissed by the teacher. The victim advised (that) no other contact occurred.”

Police said they had been made aware of the relationship on Dec. 22.
