Police said the boy, named Mason, was brutally beaten by Daniel Eduardo Romero, who is facing charges.

Investigators said it all happened at a North Miami Beach home off Northeast 15th Avenue last week.

The 34-year-old Romero, who is not the boy’s father, claimed he fell off the bed, but when his condition got worse and paramedics were called, police said Romero told the boy’s mother to tell authorities he fell off a bike.

The body camera video shows a North Miami Beach Police Department officer performing chest compressions on the lifeless boy, ultimately reviving him.

“Mason was unconscious for 30 minutes,” Elizabeth Garcia, Mason’s maternal grandmother, said. “This person (Romero) should get the maximum.”

“Our officers responded to an unimaginable situation involving a six-year-old child who was the victim of extreme abuse,” NMBPD Chief Juan Pinillos said in a statement. “Because of their immediate, decisive actions, life-saving measures were performed on scene that ultimately saved this child’s life.”

Family members have set up a GoFundMe page to help with Mason’s expenses.
