MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been a great story all season.

After nearly receiving no college offers out of high school, which he attended in Columbus High School in Miami, Mendoza has gone on to lead Indiana to a perfect season, so far.

He also was named this year’s Heisman Trophy winner, capping the amazing ascension for the young QB.

Mendoza said earlier this week that he grew up a fan of the Miami Hurricanes, but added that would be far from his mind when he faces Miami on Monday night.

“I know how much it means to the community and how much the University of Miami community has been waiting for this moment for the resurgence to National Championship level, I know how much it means,” said Mendoza. “However, as a kid being a University of Miami fan, right now my loyalty belongs to the Hoosiers.”

It certainly seems like a storybook ending for Mendoza, who will see his incredible season end in his hometown.
