MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman has been arrested after a man was fatally shot early Wednesday morning in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 5100 block of Northwest 29th Avenue at about 3:35 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
“I’m guessing one of my neighbors -- a female -- got into it with her boyfriend last night, and it turned deadly,” Jawann, who lives in an apartment building along Northwest 29th Avenue, said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has since been identified as 33-year-old Maxin Laguerre.
“It’s just crazy,” Jawann said. “There’s a jacket out there, there’s blood out there, and a car that’s blocked in that I think that’s involved with it.”
A handgun was also recovered at the scene.
Deputies confirmed that Janiese Santa Maria, 29, was arrested in connection with the murder.
“I see her frequent(ly). She stays here. I don’t believe the guy does,” Jawann said.
Jawann told Local 10 that he believes Santa Maria and the victim were in some sort of relationship.
“Well, I know that this happens frequently,” he said. “I believe police have been called here three times for that. And like I said, this – the last time -- it turned deadly."
Jail records show Santa Maria is facing a second-degree murder charge and was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Thursday afternoon.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
