MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage and surveillance video Thursday following the fatal shooting of a shoplifting suspect by a deputy.
The shooting occurred back on Nov. 6, 2025, outside a Walmart in the area of Southwest 211th Street and South Dixie Highway in the county’s Goulds area.
According to Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, a deputy patrolling the area was alerted around 7:15 a.m. about a subject inside the store who was allegedly stealing merchandise.
Cordero-Stutz said the man, identified as Kennedy Graham, 36, ran away from the deputy, and the two got into a physical altercation just outside the store’s front doors.
Surveillance video shows that Graham dropped a black handgun during the struggle with the deputy and then picked it up before running away.
The deputy then fired at Graham, striking him.
The sheriff said the deputy rendered aid to Graham until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived.
Paramedics transported Graham to a local hospital, where he died.
Cordero-Stutz told the media after the shooting that Graham had an “extensive criminal past.”
“We recognize that incidents of this nature raise questions and concerns within our community, and I believe the public has the right to see critical incidents involving law enforcement,” the sheriff said in a statement Thursday.
“While a thorough investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is still underway, releasing this footage ensures everyone sees the sequence of events as they unfolded.
“Regardless of the outcome, my commitment is clear, to be transparent with our community, to hold ourselves to the highest standards, and to continue working every day to earn and maintain your trust.”
