FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A court hearing was held Monday for one of the Miami-Dade police officers charged in a 2019 shooting.
During that ‘stand your ground’ hearing, attorneys replayed an FDLE deposition with then-Officer Leslie Lee, who said under oath that he never fired his weapon, though state evidence showed the contrary.
Killed in the shooting were Frank Ordonez and Rick Cutshaw.
Ordonez was a UPS driver who had been carjacked and kidnapped while Cutshaw was an innocent bystander.
They both lost their lives during a Miramar Parkway shootout after around 20 officers opened fire on suspects Lamar Alexander and Ronnie Hill after investigators said they robbed a Coral Gables jewelry store.
An FBI Miami investigator took the stand during Monday’s hearing, detailing the federal investigation into the chase that ended in the tragic shootout
Lee’s fellow defendants are suspended Officers Rodolfo Mirabal and Richard Santiesteban, who are facing similar charges in the same case.
In September, the same judge cleared Officer Jose Mateo of his manslaughter charge related to Cutshaw and Ordonez’s deaths in a ‘stand your ground’ hearing where he was the sole defendant.
Lee is likely hoping for the same outcome, though state prosecutors announced plans to appeal Mateo’s stand your ground case.
