According to BSO, the crash occurred at about 11:57 p.m. Monday in the area of West Prospect Road and Northwest 31st Avenue.

Investigators said deputies spotted a vehicle in Tamarac that had been reported stolen out of Margate.

“At some point, a crash occurred involving a BSO patrol car and a civilian vehicle. A second crash involving the suspect’s vehicle occurred a short period later,” a BSO spokesperson said in a news release.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as the intersection was closed off in all directions.

A silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was smashed on its side and a BSO SUV was crashed next to it with significant front-end damage.

A man who was working at a 7-Eleven near the scene told Local 10 News that his customers witnessed a high-speed chase just before the crash.

He said the driver of the truck was trying to make a turn at the time, but got caught up in the middle of the chase and was struck by a deputy’s vehicle.

“At the time, we saw like six cops coming, chasing after one car,” Jared Fisher said. “The car that was being chased went through the intersection easily and the car behind him collided with a car that was making a left-hand turn.”

Fisher said deputies ran over to the truck to check on the occupants inside.

“We heard several cops came out and ran directly to the car, screaming, ‘Are you OK? Are you alright?” Fisher said.

The driver of the pickup truck, however, did not survive.

“The deputy, the civilian driver, a passenger in the civilian vehicle and the suspect were transported to an area hospital for treatment,” a BSO spokesperson said. “The civilian driver was later pronounced deceased.”

A tow truck eventually arrived to remove the vehicles.

Deputies were seen redirecting traffic away from the intersection as a BSO drone circled above.

“It was about 30 cops out,” Fisher said. “I haven’t seen anything like this before.”

The identities of the suspect in the stolen vehicle and victims involved in the crash have not yet been released.

BSO confirmed that its Traffic Homicide and Violent Crimes Units detectives are investigating the incident and its Internal Affairs Unit has also opened an administrative investigation into the incident.
