BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities have announced an arrest from a deadly crash that occurred on Monday in Broward County, as new details were released about the chase that led to an innocent driver’s death.
The crash happened around 11:57 p.m. Monday near Northwest 31st Avenue and West Prospect Road. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted a stolen vehicle reported out of Margate in Tamarac and began pursuing it.
Investigators said the suspect, identified as Sean Paul Holder, had already been accused of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer after reversing into a marked patrol vehicle before the pursuit.
During the chase, a deputy’s patrol car collided with a civilian pickup truck that was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection.
The driver of the truck, Ronald Wilson, was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Authorities said the fleeing vehicle had passed through the intersection before the crash occurred.
Deputies caught up to Holder, who now faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, grand theft, driving with a suspended license and murder while engaged in a specified felony.
Court records state Holder caused the chain of events that led to the fatal collision. He refused to appear for a scheduled bond hearing.
The deputy involved in the crash, identified as Deputy Brian Quintal, is recovering from his injuries.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, and the agency’s pursuit review board is expected to review the circumstances surrounding the chase.
