CUTLER BAY, Fla. — A 57-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after deputies said she allegedly stole jewelry from a woman who she was caring for in Cutler Bay.
The suspect was identified in an arrest report as Jacqueline Densie Robinson, 57, of Homestead.
The arrest was made by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office at a home near the 8900 block of Southwest 196th Drive.
According to the report, a deputy responded to the home in reference to a theft that had occurred.
A witness told deputies that her mother’s caregiver, Robinson, was “intentionally, knowingly and unlawfully taking property (jewelry) belonging to the victim, with the intent to temporarily or permanently deprive her of property valued at $1,000,” the report stated.
Authorities said they spoke with Robinson inside the home. When asked if she knew why deputies were there, Robinson said she did not and “appeared dumbfounded by the question.”
They said Robinson told them that she had not taken any medication that would affect her judgment. After being read her Miranda rights, she waived them and agreed to speak with deputies.
When asked whether she had taken any items belonging to the victim, Robinson implied that she had not, deputies wrote.
However, as she emptied her pockets, deputies said Robinson removed a bracelet belonging to the victim. Robinson then told deputies that she found the bracelet while cleaning a closet inside the home, put it in her pocket and planned to return it.
They said a witness also showed deputies video footage that allegedly captured Robinson going through the victim’s drawers, “selecting items (which she) proceeded to conceal on her person.”
Based on that evidence and reports of additional missing items, deputies asked Robinson to sign a consent-to-search form for her vehicle. Authorities said she waived her rights and signed the form.
A search of the vehicle revealed the remaining stolen items concealed inside a purse on the passenger seat, according to the report.
Deputies said all of the stolen jewelry, with an estimated value of $1,000, was recovered and returned to the family.
They said the vehicle was released to a family member at Robinson’s request.
Jail records show Robinson is facing one count of third-degree grand theft.
As of Thursday, she was being held on a $2,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
