MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A suspect was arrested Wednesday after assaulting his female passenger and then leading Miccosukee police officers on a chase, authorities said.
According to Miccosukee police, officers tried to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Krome Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street after a sergeant was flagged down by a witness about an assault occurring inside the vehicle.
But police said the driver, later identified as Isbel Alejandro Diaz-Bauta, 28, of Miami, refused to stop, striking a patrol vehicle and forcing civilian vehicles off the roadway.

“During the pursuit, an officer observed the driver continue to assault a female passenger and attempt to run a patrol unit off the road,” a spokesperson for the police department said in a news release.
According to an arrest report, Diaz-Bauta was driving recklessly during the pursuit, driving about 108 mph in a 55 mph zone at one point.
Authorities said he ran a red light during the chase and repeatedly tried to force two Miccosukee police units off the roadway.
Diaz-Bauta was eventually taken into custody along Northwest 107th Avenue in Medley with assistance from Medley police and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies.
He faces charges of battery – domestic violence, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and excessive speeding. He also faces a charge related to a probation warrant, the arrest report stated.
No officers were injured during the incident and the passenger was not transported to a medical facility, authorities said.
Police said she is cooperating with the investigation.
