BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Rapper iHeartMemphis, whose real name is Richard Maurice Colbert, appeared in bond court Saturday after being arrested Tuesday night in Plantation following a foot chase through a neighborhood.
Police say officers responded to the 8600 block of Gatehouse Road after reports that Colbert, 32, was causing a disturbance.
When they attempted to detain him, he then fled on foot, entering several private homes before deputies, assisted by a helicopter and K-9 units from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, took him into custody near Mahogany Way.
At the time, officers said Colbert was using a cellphone and posting on social media, violating conditions of his release from a prior arrest last week, when a SWAT team responded to his home in Plantation.
Video from that earlier incident shows Colbert barricading himself inside his home and live-streaming his eventual arrest.
Colbert, best known for his 2015 hit “Hit the Quan,” faces multiple charges, including burglary of an occupied dwelling, obstructing a highway or public road, resisting an officer without violence, and violation of a pretrial felony warrant, including writing a threat to kill.
A judge set his total bond at $47,500 and ordered him to have no firearms, stay away from the victim, and avoid the location where the incident occurred.
His next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
