FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A severe snowstorm in the Northeast caused near-hurricane-force winds, power outages and whiteout conditions ― and flight cancellations and delays rippling down to South Florida.
At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, while some flights were still delayed Tuesday, particularly to Northeastern cities, there were fewer cancellations than earlier in the week.
Passengers were rebooking flights after a slew of weather-related issues.
“We flew to Miami last night and we stayed over in a hotel,“ Braden Parker, who was flying to Boston after taking a senior trip to Punta Cana, Mexico, said. ”We have another flight today to Plattsburgh, New York, then a four-hour drive home.”
Another passenger flying to the upstate New York city added, “You couldn’t get a big enough SUV in Plattsburgh.”
One passenger flying home to Philadelphia said she was looking forward to “making myself a hot chocolate from scratch.”
As of just before noon Tuesday, FLL recorded 36 delays and 91 cancellations, all of which were on domestic flights.
At Miami International Airport, there were a total of 70 delays and 50 cancellations, all on domestic flights.
