NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — North Miami police arrested a man who they said allegedly attempted to rape a woman at a local gas station early Tuesday morning.
Jail records show Dadleey Desir, 26, is facing one count each of attempted sexual battery without serious personal injury, resisting arrest without violence, petit theft between $100 and $750, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.
Police said they were dispatched to the Marathon gas station, located at 13490 Memorial Highway, after a report of a sexual battery just before 2 a.m.
The victim told officers that Desir followed her into a restroom and tried to remove her underwear without her consent, according to the report.
The report stated that she “was able to break free and ran out of the bathroom before the subject could complete the sexual act.”
Officers said they located Desir in the area, but he fled on foot and resisted detention shortly after. He was eventually handcuffed.
During a search incident to arrest, Desir attempted to flee again while in handcuffs. Officers said they found a crack pipe on him and recovered the victim’s purse in his possession.
After being placed in a police vehicle, Desir reportedly punched out fiberglass in the rear passenger-side cage.
Investigators said Desir sustained visible scratches to his head and back during his resistance and was transported to Jackson West Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. After being medically cleared, he was taken into custody.
As of Tuesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
