COOPER CITY, Fla. — A South Florida substitute teacher was arrested after being found in possession of a gun on a Broward County school campus.
Deputies took Khadijah Jameela Mohamed, 22, into custody at Cooper City High School on Tuesday morning.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Mohamed arrived at the school around 7:30 a.m., got out of her car and headed inside with a black purse in hand.
When going through school security, a staff member inspecting her purse found a black and pink Glock 34x gun inside, authorities said.
She was immediately brought to the school’s administrative offices, where deputies said they were called.
After speaking with Mohamed, deputies said she told them she grabbed the wrong purse from her car, explaining that she has two black purses, “one containing her laptop and another in which she stores her firearm,” according to an arrest form.
Mohamed is facing one count of possession of a firearm on school property.
She was not listed among Broward County inmates as of Thursday afternoon.
