SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. — A 31-year-old man was arrested after authorities said a drone captured him stealing a laptop at a Starbucks in Sunny Isles beach earlier this week.
Sunny Isles Beach police said the suspect, Enrico Lloyd Desravines, was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Starbucks at 17100 Collins Avenue.
Footage from a Sunny Isles Beach Police Department’s drone reportedly showed him taking the laptop and walking away, allowing officers to quickly locate and apprehend him.
According to police, the victim had stepped away from his silver MacBook Air, valued at $1,000 to $2,000, when Desravines swiped it. Officers said they found Desravines in a nearby alley holding the laptop.
They said Desravines, who is listed as homeless in his arrest report, resisted arrest without violence, tensing his upper body and swinging his arms to prevent handcuffing. The victim identified him, and the laptop was returned.
Jail records show he is facing charges of third-degree grand theft and resisting an officer without violence.
Police said their drone technology played a key role in the swift arrest.
“By maintaining visual contact, it guided officers to the scene, leading to a successful apprehension,” the agency said in a statement on Facebook.
As of Friday afternoon, Desravines was being held on a $3,000 bond at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
