MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities have identified a woman who was shot and wounded by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper after they said she stabbed him along the Dolphin Expressway in west Miami-Dade over the weekend.

The FHP report also reveals additional details about what took place early Saturday morning.

Investigators said at around 3:50 a.m., a trooper stopped to check on a Toyota Corolla parked the wrong way on the shoulder of Florida’s Turnpike.

Authorities said a woman later identified as Lisette Broom, 42, of Chester, Virginia, was “standing outside the vehicle holding a small child.”

After the trooper asked if she needed help, Broom “reportedly threw the child in the car and subsequently drove away the wrong way,” exiting on Southwest Eighth Street, the report states.

Authorities put out a be-on-the-lookout notice for the vehicle and, at around 5:35 a.m., they said Trooper Julio Cidron Delgado eventually spotted the sedan parked in the median of the Dolphin Expressway near Northwest 107th Avenue, just outside of Sweetwater.

According to the report, Cidron “checked on the young child in the vehicle” and then asked Broom her name. Troopers said she asked Cidron “why he needed to know her name,” then took out a 5.5-inch knife and stabbed him in the head, neck and shoulder.

Troopers said Cidron unholstered his gun, distanced himself from Broom, and ordered her to drop the knife. According to the report, Broom refused and Cidron opened fire four times, hitting her once in the abdomen.

Authorities said both Broom and Cidron were taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Before being taken to the hospital, Broom invoked her right to remain silent, they said.

The report says it’s unknown whether Broom was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It doesn’t state whether authorities suspected she was suffering from mental health issues or why she was in South Florida.

FHP later released a photo of Cidron giving a “thumbs up” in the hospital and video of his return home.

In the post, the agency said Cidron is in “good spirits” and “on the road to recovery.”

A fundraising page has been set up to help with his medical expenses.

Broom is set to face charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. An FHP spokesperson said she remained hospitalized as of Monday morning under the supervision of corrections officers and will be booked into the Miami-Dade jail once medically cleared.
