PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with the 2024 killing of a nurse in Palm Beach County, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say Renee Perez is responsible for the death of Linda Campitelli, a nurse and mother who was found dead in October 2024.
Perez appeared in court where he was formally charged with first-degree murder.
Detectives said the case began in October 2024 when Campitelli’s body was discovered along a road in Lake Worth. Investigators determined her injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma.
Authorities later ruled the death a homicide.
According to investigators, blood was found inside Campitelli’s vehicle and evidence suggested she had been dragged from one location to another.
Detectives said Perez and Campitelli knew each other well. The two had been involved in a relationship for about two years and met while working together at Wellington Regional Medical Center.
An investigative report outlines messages exchanged between the two the night before Campitelli’s death.
In one message, she asked about meeting the following morning at 7:30. Perez responded, “Yes ma’am, you got it. I love you so much.”
Investigators said Perez told them they never met that day and claimed he never left work. However, detectives said surveillance shows his vehicle leaving before returning about five hours later. When he came back, investigators said he was wearing different shoes.
Campitelli’s friends say they are hoping the arrest brings some measure of justice.
In a statement, one friend described her as “a beautiful soul who meant so much to the people who loved her,” adding they hope her family can begin to find peace.
Perez remains in custody at the Palm Beach County jail and is being held without bond.
