MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman was arrested Thursday, months after she allegedly defrauded Regions Bank out of more than $47,000 by cashing counterfeit checks at three separate Miami-Dade County locations, authorities said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Sonia Infante-Perez, 55, of Hialeah, first targeted the three banks during a one-hour period on Dec. 17, 2025.
Deputies said the first counterfeit check, for $3,929.91, was taken to the bank branch at 2205 SW Eighth St; the second check, for $3,799, was cashed at the branch at 600 E. Ninth St.; and a third check, for $4,982.93, was cashed at the branch at 3700 W. 12th Ave.
According to the report, Otero returned to the branch on East Ninth Street the following day and deposited a counterfeit check for $34,982.88 into her account.
Each check was titled in the name of Contemporary Pools and was made payable to Infante-Perez, authorities said.
Deputies said Infante-Perez presented her Florida’s driver’s license during each incident and was captured on CCTV.
As a result of her actions, Regions Bank suffered a loss of $47,664, the report stated.
According to the report, after being detained Thursday, Infante-Perez claimed that the checks were compensation for a digital marketing campaign she was involved with, but she could not provide details about the work she performed or contact information related to the employer.
Infante-Perez was arrested on multiple charges, including grand theft, organized fraud, cashing or depositing a worthless check and possessing a counterfeit payment instrument.
As of Friday morning, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $20,000 bond. Before posting bond, she will have to show proof that the funds used for her bond were obtained legitimately.
