Police said they responded just before 3:30 a.m. to a crash involving a pedestrian near Caraf Oil, adjacent to the intersection of Northwest 12th Avenue and 28th Street, in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood.

They said the victim, 62-year-old Antonio Sanchez, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.

Local 10 News obtained video of the fatal crash.

“I was looking outside, I heard the loud bang and I went outside and called 911 immediately -- turns out, the dude is somebody that I know since I was 10 years old,” said witness Axel Martinez.

Authorities said the driver, who was in a tan or gold SUV with front-end damage, fled the scene after slamming into Sanchez.

Anyone with information is urged to call police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
