KEY WEST, Fla. — A woman is facing two felony charges after a witness said she purposely hit a cyclist with her minivan in a Key West road rage incident on Monday night, injuring her and fleeing the scene, according to the city’s police department.

Lisa Marie Sacco, 57, of Saddlebunch Keys, apparently thought that a local couple riding their bikes near Olivia and Duval streets were tourists, police said.

According to the report, a 27-year-old man told police that he and his 38-year-old wife were riding their bikes east on Olivia Street just after 9 p.m. when they noticed that a woman, later identified as Sacco, was “following them and began honking” from her Toyota Sienna.

The report states that the victim told officers that Sacco was “yelling for her to move over” and “agreed she would move over further up the road where there was more room.”

Her husband told officers that he heard Sacco yell “tourist” at them before “(speeding) up and (hitting) the rear of his wife’s bicycle” near Petronia Lane, “causing her to fall,” it states. Medics would take her to the Lower Keys Medical Center with elbow and knee pain.

A witness who called police after the wreck told a dispatcher that he saw Sacco drive away and park her van at Winslow’s Bungalows at 725 Truman Ave., according to the report. Police said a responding officer saw the Sienna in the parking lot, missing its right mirror.

The witness told police that Sacco “was seen following and honking at the bicyclists for two stop signs” and “it appeared the driver of the white minivan hit the bicyclist on purpose.”

Authorities said that Sacco showed up to the lobby of the Key West Police Department at around 10:15 p.m. seeking to speak with an officer about the crash, saying that “a bicyclist ran out in front of her vehicle.”

But Sacco declined to answer questions about the wreck, asking for an attorney, police said.

“I advised Ms. Sacco I was aware of the situation, and the involved female was transported to the hospital,” KWPD Officer Danielle Fasulo wrote in the report. “At this point, Ms. Sacco questioned if the involved female was going to be OK.”

Fasulo wrote that a man who was with Sacco in the lobby told her that Sacco “called him very upset and panicking” about the crash, and she “just wanted him to wait with her for police to arrive and did not provide any further details.”

The officer concluded that Sacco “was experiencing an episode of road rage which caused her to actually and intentionally increase the speed of her vehicle and strike (the victim) against her will.”

Police arrested Sacco on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Records show she was being held in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Key West jail facility as of Tuesday morning, with no listed bond. She’s scheduled to be arraigned on April 9.
