MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that authorities said occurred earlier this month at a southwest Miami-Dade gas station.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they responded around 3:45 p.m. on March 1 to a Sunoco, located at 12701 SW 268th St., in reference to a shooting.
Investigators said they found 42-year-old Latrosha Williams, lying on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
They said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported her to Jackson South Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead at 4:34 p.m.
Surveillance video reviewed by investigators showed the victim approaching a gold Cadillac sedan driven by the suspect, who deputies identified as Angel Tatiana Heyward, of Homestead. The two women began arguing after Heyward arrived and parked in front of the store.
According to the report, Heyward retrieved a gun from her purse during the dispute. A witness intervened and convinced her to go inside the store, where she placed the weapon back in her purse.
While Heyward was inside, Williams remained outside and continued to argue, at times gesturing for her to come out and fight. Deputies said video and witness statements indicate Williams was unarmed.
Authorities said that when Heyward exited the store and walked back toward her vehicle, Williams approached her with clenched fists. During an argument, they said Heyward discharged her gun twice, striking Williams, who collapsed near the car.
The report states Heyward then dropped the gun, retrieved it, and accidentally shot herself in the foot. She then removed her license plate and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, investigators said.
Authorities said Heyward later arrived at Baptist Health Homestead Hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her right foot. She was discharged and later taken into custody for questioning before being arrested.
Jail records show Heyward is facing a charge of manslaughter with a deadly weapon.
As of Wednesday morning, she was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
