JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. — Newly released body camera video obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday shows the moment that deputies arrested golf legend Tiger Woods on a DUI charge following a rollover crash in on Florida’s Treasure Coast last week.
The crash occurred on March 27 on South Beach Road in Hobe Sound, along Jupiter Island.
Deputies who searched Woods, 50, after the crash near his home in Jupiter Island reported finding “two white pills” inside his “left side pocket,” according to authorities.
The pills marked “M365″ were hydrocodone, according to an arrest report prepared by Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The opioid analgesic has a high risk of addiction and it is used to treat pain.
Investigators said Woods was driving a black Land Rover SUV when he attempted to pass a Ford F-150 pulling a trailer by crossing double solid lines as the truck slowed to turn into a driveway. Authorities said the SUV struck the trailer and overturned onto its side.
Woods told deputies he has had seven back surgeries and more than 20 procedures on his leg, according to the arrest report. Woods stated that he was driving when “he looked down at his cell phone and did not realize that” a white Ford F-150 with an attached trailer “had slowed down,” according to the report.
A deputy wrote in the report that Woods’ normal faculties appeared to be “impaired and that he was unable to safely operate the vehicle.”
Video shows the moments of Woods’ arrest, where deputies reported signs of impairment, including bloodshot, glassy eyes, dilated pupils, profuse sweating and movements described as lethargic and slow.
They also noted he was limping and stumbling to one side. Woods was also described as talkative and alert and reported hiccups during the encounter, according to the report.
The truck driver and another person helped Woods exit the vehicle through the passenger window. No injuries were reported. The truck sustained about $5,000 in damage.
During a field sobriety test, deputies said Woods continued to show physical limitations, including a limp and a compression sock on his right knee. He told deputies his ankle sometimes locks while walking due to prior surgeries.
Woods also repeatedly moved his head during one of the tests despite being instructed to keep it still, the report stated.
Authorities said a Breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system, but he refused a urine test.
Woods was arrested and released on bond about eight hours later.
Woods entered a plea of not guilty in Martin County earlier this week on charges of misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to drug testing.
Woods on Tuesday said he is stepping away to seek treatment, four days after his crash and arrest. He will miss the Masters for the second straight year.
