Authorities said fire rescue crews responded at approximately 10:50 a.m. at 1250 E. Hallandale Beach Boulevard after receiving reports of a collapse.

When crews arrived, they found a portion of the building had given way, with two vehicles trapped beneath debris. Authorities said both vehicles were unoccupied at the time.

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.

Jamie Weinstein told Local 10’s Liane Morejon that the collaps happened right in front of him.

“I was waiting and faced forward and as I looked straight ahead I saw the collapse,” he said. “I got out of my car to check if anyone was underneath and thankfully, no one was.”

A representative from the building’s management and a structural engineer from the city were at the scene assessing the damage and determining whether and when residents could safely return.

Local 10 was at the scene, where first responders monitored the structural collapse as water flooded surrounding areas.

Sky 10 flew over the area just before 1 p.m., showing the collapse atop a car, though a second vehicle was not visible at the time.

A Hallandale Beach Police Department spokesperson said building management and a city engineer are working to determine the extent of the damage and when or whether residents and workers will be allowed back inside.

A BSFR spokesperson said the agency was “in the process of concluding and demobilizing its response.”

Yellow tape surrounded the collapse zone as of 4:30 p.m. and the structure covered a walkway between the parking garage and the building.

Weinstein said he shudders to think what could have happened if he had parked there.

“I probably would’ve been under the piece when it was coming down,” he said.

For information about the building’s condition and safety, officials said inquiries should be directed to the Hallandale Beach Public Information Office.
