Authorities in Miami-Dade County responded to investigate a bomb threat at a popular South Florida shopping mall.

According to Sweetwater police, officers were doing a sweep of Dolphin Mall after being notified of a bomb threat.

After what officers called a “cursory search,” the mall was deemed safe and reopened to the employees and patrons just before 11 a.m.

Sweetwater police said they will “continue to remain vigilant and maintain a high-visibility presence in the area” in order to provide an additional layer of public safety.

Additionally, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office released a statement Sunday afternoon emphasizing that making false threats is not a prank, it’s a crime. The statement read, in part:

“These actions place innocent people, first responders, and entire communities at risk by diverting emergency resources from real emergencies. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office takes these incidents seriously and will investigate and pursue charges against those responsible.”
