SUNRISE, Fla. — A large crowd gathered at a Fort Lauderdale park Saturday evening, showing just how much Kendrick English was loved.
Friends and family hugged and leaned on one another as they remembered the impact he had on their lives.
The vigil comes as police continue investigating the shooting that killed English early Sunday morning outside Five Stars Banquet Hall in Sunrise.
Investigators say English was trying to get into a party when he got into an argument with a security guard, identified as Francisco Sanchez, who would not let him inside. Police say Sanchez then shot English multiple times.
As the community mourns, loved ones say the vigil is just the beginning of helping the family heal.
“There’s a lot of love and support. I mean this is tremendous again,” said Tanika English-Woolfork, English’s sister. “I’ve lost the words. I don’t even know where to start, but with what South Florida has given us, they could never touch the hole in our heart, but this is helping. This is what we need to know -- that my brother was loved.”
The man accused of killing English is charged with murder and remains in jail without bond.
