DORAL, Fla. — Local 10 News on Tuesday exclusively obtained video showing the moments surrounding a crash involving an off-duty Hialeah police officer, offering a new look at interactions between investigators and Lt. Erik Martin after an early-morning collision near Doral late last year.

According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responding to the crash at Northwest 72nd Avenue and 47th Street around 6 a.m. on Dec 30, 2025, found Martin “unsteady on his feet, with (bloodshot) watery eyes and slurred speech” and detected the odor of alcohol.

Local 10 obtained video that shows MDSO deputies arriving to the crash scene.

A garbage truck can be seen pushed off to the side of the road following the collision.

Ahead of it is Martin’s truck, with visible front-end damage as investigators work to determine what led up to the crash.

In the video, deputies can be seen speaking with Martin, 45, and asking if he is OK. He then informs them he is a Hialeah police officer.

The next video shows an interaction between a witness and investigators, who ask whether the witness saw Martin driving the truck.

Another clip shows Martin in handcuffs as he is placed into the back of an MDSO patrol car.

Authorities said Martin had been involved in a crash with a trash truck and was later handcuffed after becoming “belligerent” toward fellow law enforcement officers.

Deputies said medics transported Martin to Jackson West Medical Center, where a DUI investigator attempted to interview him.

According to the report, Martin was “uncooperative” and repeatedly responded “I don’t know” when asked basic questions, including whether he knew what was going on or if he had been in a crash.

Deputies said he refused field sobriety tests and also declined a blood draw, prompting investigators to seize his driver’s license under Florida’s implied consent law.

Martin had been placed on administrative leave following the crash.

Local 10 News is working to confirm his current employment status with the Hialeah Police Department.
