TAMARAC, Fla. — A Tamarac man is facing felony charges after authorities said he jumped two fences surrounding a Catholic school playground in the city and attempted to entice a young girl playing there.
The incident happened on Thursday at St. Malachy Catholic School, located at 7595 NW 61st St., according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said CCTV footage showed Yakine Jones, 26, jumping the fences as “several students ran away from (him).”
Deputies said the students were “clearly in fear” of Jones.
According to a BSO arrest report, the video showed Jones trying to conceal himself behind a wall. Then, deputies said a 7-year-old girl came up to him and the “two appeared to have a conversation.”
In the report, BSO Deputy Steven Lees described a disturbing interaction caught on camera.
“As Jones was speaking with the (girl), he lifted his shirt slightly and touched (his) upper pubic area,” the deputy wrote. “The outline of Jones’ penis was visible through the material of his green basketball shorts and he had a visible erection.”
Authorities said a staff member then confronted him and he ran away.
The girl “was too frightened to recall what Jones said to her on the playground,” the report states.
Deputies said they were able to identify him through the footage and his license plate and on Friday, they arrested Jones on charges of child enticement, burglary, criminal mischief and disturbing a school function.
They noted in their report that Jones, then living in Plantation, had been arrested by that city’s police force “for soliciting sex with a minor” in 2022.
Broward court records show the case was later dropped, however.
As of Monday afternoon, records show he was being held at the BSO Main Jail on a $36,000 bond.
