Chris Dirato, a spokesman for the show, said there were tens of thousands of spectators of all ages along Fort Lauderdale Beach.

The show’s headliner: The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

“We love coming to air shows, so we fly wherever there is an air show,” said Kevin Funk, who was visiting with his wife, Carrie Funk, from central Florida.

In the cockpit, the pilots performed precision stunts such as the diamond formation, with the planes flying just about 18 inches apart.

“Well, I’m a little speechless because it brings tears to my eyes,” said Laurie Rad as she watched the show.

John Velcofsky said he was also emotional.

“It’s heartwarming for me as an American, as a veteran, to have everyone come out and admire this and have a great time,” Velcofsky said.

Mark Welber said he was impressed.

“To celebrate America and technology while honoring our military and the sacrifices to get us where we are today,” Welber said.

Dirato said the show also includes the F-22 Raptor fighter jets, the F/A-18 Super Hornet with the Navy, and the Red Bull Air Force.

Dirato’s tips: Make sure you hydrate and use sun protection.

The show’s next performance is from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The viewing area is on the beach at State Road A1A and Sunrise Boulevard. Admission starts at $35.
