They said Sunrise Fire Rescue and Lauderhill Fire Rescue crews responded to reports of a smell of smoke inside an apartment building near the 5900 block of Northwest 16th Place. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from multiple windows on the second floor of the complex.

Firefighters then launched an “aggressive fire attack” and were able to keep the flames from spreading through the attic and the rest of the second floor, officials said.

They said occupants safely evacuated the building, and no injuries were reported among residents or fire rescue personnel.

Fire officials remained at the scene awaiting assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, which authorities say will help investigate the cause of the fire.

Officials said two families were displaced due to the fire and that the Red Cross is assisting them with temporary support.

No other details about the fire were immediately released.
