BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A brush fire that sparked over the weekend in western Broward County is now mostly under control.
According to the Florida Forest Service, the Max Road Fire, which has burned 11,339 acres in the Everglades, was at 70% containment as of Tuesday morning.
It broke out on Sunday.
“We feel a lot better now,” west Broward resident Terri Castro said. “We don’t see any smoke and it’s not dark anymore, so we can’t even smell it. So, we feel better. We feel a lot of relief.”
With dry conditions, the Florida Forest Service is encouraging residents to “see something, say something” and to not burn outside or carelessly dispose cigarettes.
