HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Hollywood and involved one of the city’s police officers.
The crash was reported just before 1 a.m. in the area of North Ocean Drive and Hollywood Boulevard.
A Local 10 News crew was in the area later in the morning and saw that a marked Hollywood police vehicle had been struck by a red BMW.
According to Hollywood police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi, the officer was driving on A1A near Hollywood Boulevard when the driver of a BMW that was heading in the opposite direction crossed the median and struck the officer’s vehicle.
The driver then took off running, Bettineschi said.
Bettineschi confirmed that the officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash shut down the roadway for several hours, but all lanes have since reopened.
Bettineschi said officers are still searching for the driver of the BMW.
