Driver injured after Tesla slams into tree and catches fire

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — A driver was hospitalized after a Tesla crashed into a tree and caught fire Saturday in Hallandale Beach.

The crash happened just before noon along Southwest 32nd Avenue near Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

Video from the scene showed what was left of the Tesla after the impact, with the vehicle reduced to crumpled, burned metal.

It is not clear how fast the driver was traveling.

Police are working to determine how and why the driver lost control before slamming into the tree.

The Tesla also knocked down a mailbox and damaged part of a fence in front of a nearby home.

After the collision, the vehicle burst into flames.

The man behind the wheel was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert.

Residents in the area said they were grateful the car did not strike any homes and cause even more damage.

Authorities have not released the driver’s name. Officials are also working to provide an update on his condition.
