MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Family members of Leomar Suris, 36, believe he was the man killed in an explosion on Monday morning at a Miami-Dade County facility.
His wife, Madiari Suris, said although the pair no longer lived together, they were good co-parents to their 2 and 7 year olds.
“He’s got two babies. And I have to tell them they don’t have a dad anymore,” Suris said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the explosion occurred just after 10 a.m. Monday at 6100 SW 87th Ave., a county fuel and equipment facility.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah confirmed that after the explosion, crews found an overhang that was destroyed and an active fire coming from underground.
Four people were injured and one died.
Suris said she did not yet have official confirmation from MDSO but that the family was told to start making arrangements.
The pair met when they were 20, Suris said.
Family told Local 10 he worked at a private gas company and always enjoyed his work.
The incident is still under investigation by MDSO homicide detectives as well as the state fire marshal.
“He was loved by a lot of people. He had many friends. He loved his job. He was obsessed with his kids. His daughter and his son,” Suris said through tears.
