MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A man scaled a Miami Beach hotel and tried to enter four rooms through the balconies early Sunday morning, police say. They say the thirsty thief was successful twice, but only managed to steal two containers of apple juice before being caught.
According to the Miami Beach Police Department, the burglaries happened at around 4:15 a.m. at the Eden Roc Miami Beach, located at 4525 Collins Ave. in the Mid-Beach area.
Police said hotel staff called police to alert them that Patrick Lee Bryant, who “had previously been arrested” there, was back and “attempting to gain unauthorized access to guest rooms.”
Bryant, 37, of northwest Miami-Dade, had gained access to the fourth-floor balconies “by climbing toward guest rooms,” an MBPD arrest report states.
In the first room, he stole and drank the two apple juices, worth $10, police said. They said he was unsuccessful trying to get into the second, managed to get into the third but stole nothing, and was again foiled by a locked door on the fourth balcony.
Police said officers encountered Bryant at the top of the hotel’s pool terrace and took him into custody after a brief foot chase in which he resisted arrest.
Authorities said Bryant had warrants for burglary, theft and two probation violations and has “multiple previous theft convictions.”
He was set to be off probation on Aug. 18.
Additionally, they said he “has previously been charged as a prisoner escapee and should be considered a risk to escape and/or flee if released.”
Bryant, facing multiple new burglary charges, was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon.
