DORAL, Fla. — A former professional tennis player is facing a felony charge and multiple misdemeanors after police said he caused a racket at a Doral tennis store, then threatened employees.
Records show that Doral police took Nicolas Xiviller, 27, into custody on Sunday in connection with the incident, which happened on Friday.
Authorities said surveillance video showed Xiviller going into Tennis Plaza, located at 2600 NW 87th Ave., just before 6:30 p.m. and “selecting a racket and swinging it aggressively as to simulate striking a tennis ball.”
“While doing so, the racket becomes hung up on a metal clothing rack and (Xiviller) forcefully pulls the racket to dislodge it causing it to break,” Doral police said in an arrest report, describing the video. “(He) proceeds to select another racket and begins swinging it aggressively again.”
Police said a Tennis Plaza employee told him to “stop misusing the equipment” and tried to “peacefully escort” him out of the store.
Authorities said Xiviller turned around and told the worker, “If you touch me again, I’ll kill you” while still wielding a racket, and “then walked towards the front door of the business and purposely smashed the racquet on the floor numerous times, permanently damaging it.”
According to the report, he told a store manager, “Te voy a romper la cara” ― Spanish for “I am going to break your face.”
Police said before leaving, video shows Xiviller as “he punches and headbutts the door forcefully before walking towards his vehicle and fleeing” on Northwest 87th Avenue.
All told, he caused a little less than $600 in damage, authorities said.
They said they later spotted him at the Wawa at 3300 NW 87th Ave. just before midnight on Sunday and took him into custody on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three misdemeanors, including criminal mischief.
Records show Xiviller, a native of Montevideo, Uruguay, who was listed on his arrest report as homeless, was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,900 bond as of around noon on Monday.
