MIRAMAR, Fla. — A 25-year-old South Florida woman is behind bars, accused of driving drunk and nearly crashing into an 18-wheeler.

Police said the woman, Tylasia Bennett, had a 2-month-old child in the passenger seat at the time.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Miramar Parkway and 184th Avenue.

According to police, officers were alerted by a 911 caller to a silver Ford weaving in and out of traffic that had nearly hit an 18-wheeler.

Authorities said they were quickly able to locate the vehicle, which was parked with the engine running.

Officers said when they approached the car, they saw a 2-month-old sitting in the passenger seat, “not properly restrained or secured in a child safety seat.”

According to an arrest report, when police asked her why the child was in the front seat, Bennett said “the baby had been crying, so she moved it to the front seat” and when they asked her why there was food covering the child’s clothes and body, Bennett replied that she had accidentally dropped food on the child.

Officers said they noticed the smell of alcohol on Bennett, and she subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

Bennett is now facing charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and child neglect without great bodily harm.
