FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Immigration, jobs, the economy and gas prices are among the issues motivating voters to head to the polls, with some choosing to cast their ballots earlier than others.

“I just want people who haven’t been voting to get out and vote,” one voter said.

Poll workers are preparing for the start of early voting Saturday, practicing to ensure the process runs smoothly.

“This is the most convenient time to vote in person because you can go anywhere in Broward County,” Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott said.

Early voting will be available at 21 locations across Broward County from Saturday through Aug. 16.

Scott said registered voters need to bring a valid form of identification to vote in person.

“If you have a state ID, driver’s license, that’s the best bet,” Scott said.

Voters can also drop off their mail-in ballots at any early voting location in Broward County during the early voting period. They do not have to use a location in the area where they are registered.

“Vote-by-mail ballots, we actually compare the signatures with the signature we have on file,” Scott added.

Early voting in Broward County begins nearly a week after early voting started in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Scott said Broward County’s schedule is based on historical voter participation and the county’s goal of managing taxpayer dollars responsibly.

“In Broward County, we basically set up our voting system for early voting to match the population of people who are participating historically, and this is to be a good steward of the taxpayer dollars,” he said.
