SWEETWATER, Fla. — A 30-year-old Miami man is facing charges after police said he fled the scene of a crash that he caused.

Authorities said Ahmmad Kayyali got into an Uber after causing the crash, which occurred on Monday just before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Southwest 107th Avenue and Fourth Street in Sweetwater.

According to the Sweetwater Police Department, Kayyali, of Little Havana, was driving a gray Nissan Rogue south on 107th Avenue when he collided with a vehicle that was making a left onto Fourth Street.

After the crash, authorities said Kayyali got out of the Nissan and fled the scene, with one witness telling officers that Kayyali approached him “and requested he order him an Uber so that he would be able to go home,” according to an arrest report.

Sweetwater officers said they requested assistance from the Miami Police Department in locating Kayyali, and he was found and detained a short time later before being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be checked out by doctors for injuries related to the crash.

According to his arrest report, Kayyali “made multiple spontaneous statements that he was driving the vehicle and had fled the scene because he felt lightheaded and wanted to lie down.”

Ultimately, Kayyali was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, a felony, and knowingly driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a total bond of $2,650.
