MIAMI — South Florida’s country music radio station paid tribute to Dolly Parton on Wednesday following the death of the iconic vocalist.
KISS Country 99.9’s morning show featuring TC and Dina B provided a hearty mix of smiles and tears as they paid tribute to Parton.
For four hours, they didn’t just play her songs, they remembered her.
They said it’s the least they could do for a woman who has done so much for so many others.
“Every time you saw Dolly Parton, she was just this light, and I feel that if you know country music or if you don’t know country music, you know dolly parton,” said Dina B.
TC and Dina B have both spent more than a decade in radio, seeing songs and stars come and go, but Parton is one who withstood the test of time.
“Dolly introduced a whole new sound of country,” said TC. “It was a sound that you listened to music these days and it’s not all coming from the heart. Everything she wrote came from the heart. Everything she wrote is something you can connect to or some way or another.”
At Hollywood’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, butterflies lit up the sky as fans stopped by to pay their respects.
“She was an inspiration, an inspiration for everyone,” said fan Susan Salicco. “I honestly thought she’d live forever.”
One of Parton’s fans who visited the Hard Rock on Wednesday was Joan Pendergrass, widow of famed vocalist Teddy Pendergrass.
“She has given back so much,” said Pendergrass. “She has given so much of herself. What a beautiful, petite (woman), but so large at heart.”
You don’t have to go to Nashville to see Parton’s legacy.
Back in 1998, Parton joined Bob Hope to film a Christmas special at PortMiami, and further back in 1982, both Parton and Burt Reynolds made their way through South Florida crowds for a movie premiere.
