MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 37-year-old man was arrested earlier this week in connection with a disturbing incident that occurred inside a Ross Dress for Less store on Miller Drive in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed Friday in a news release.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Aug. 14 inside the Ross store off Southwest 137th Avenue and Miller Drive.
Deputies said a store employee witnessed Sean Edward Uribe, of southwest Miami-Dade, walking back and forth “aimlessly in a suspicious manner.”
The witness told deputies that she saw Uribe grabbing his penis on the outside of his clothing and “massaging it,” an arrest report stated.
According to the report, the witness said she then saw that Uribe’s penis had become fully erect as he positioned himself behind another store employee, who was working in an aisle, and had both of his hands in front of him near his crotch area.
Deputies said the witness saw Uribe possibly spraying the victim’s shirt with an “unknown liquid” as he walked away.
When the witness approached her co-worker to alert her about what had occurred, she saw that the back of the victim’s shirt and pants had a “cloudy, sticky substance from an unknown liquid,” the arrest report stated.
Detectives told Local 10 Friday that the liquid was “consistent with semen.”
“That fluid hits her in the back of the shirt and the employee’s pants. Obviously she’s freaked out, she didn’t know what to do, she goes home crying. And we took care of the case after that,” Detective Diego Mendoza said.
According to the report, detectives were able to identify Uribe from surveillance video due to previous knowledge about him and his “modus operandi.”
A records check also revealed that Uribe had two prior battery convictions in Miami-Dade County.
Deputies said the witness identified Uribe in a photo lineup on Aug. 19 and he was taken into custody Monday on a charge of battery with two prior convictions.
According to the report, Uribe invoked his right to remain silent.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer set his bond at $10,000 on Friday, but he will remain jailed at the Metrowest Detention Center until he appears before a division judge.
Detectives say Uribe committed a similar act a few years ago at another Ross location, about 10 minutes down the road from the store at Southwest 137th Avenue and Miller Drive.
Records show he was on probation at the time of his arrest for battery and attempting to tamper with physical evidence. Deputies confirmed he was taken into custody when reporting to his probation officer. In addition to the latest battery charge, he also faces a charge of probation violation.
