FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A 15-year-old girl was seriously injured in a shooting in Fort Lauderdale early Saturday, marking the second shooting reported in the city within hours, police said.
Fort Lauderdale police said they responded at approximately 3:45 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Northwest Ninth Street.
They said officers found the girl, who has not been identified at this time, and immediately began providing aid until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene.
She was taken by trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center with serious injuries, according to investigators.
Police later confirmed that the victim is expected to survive.
Police said the shooting remain under investigation, and they are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Earlier Saturday morning, Fort Lauderdale police also responded at approximately 1:51 a.m. to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1600 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue, where they said a man was shot dead.
Police have not connected the two shootings.
